Colombia is a Country situated in the northwest of South America, with territories in Central America. Around our country you can find Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela and Panama. Colombia has a total area of around 1 141 748 km² and 49 210 312 people.

In my country there are many travelers from Europe mostly with big backpacks. It is possible to book in backpackers, hostels or hotels in the cities, but it depends on your budget. Not everyone speaks English, but in these types of places it is not so difficult to find an English speaker. For your security it is better if you don’t have a lot of cash with you, the best idea is to open an account or use bank cards from your country, for example Visa or MasterCard.

The power sockets in Colombia are type A and B. The standard voltage is 110 V and the standard frequency is 60 Hz. Based on that you need check if you have the correct power plug adapter or if you need buy one. It is always possible to buy one in the airport.

The people are friendly, talkative, sociable, and enthusiastic. Latin people love to meet new people and learn about other countries, so if you need help, don’t hesitate to ask. In the main cities some people are busy, but in the towns it is usually easy to talk with everyone. However, your best option is to talk to young people if you don’t know how to speak Spanish or if don’t have a map or something to use as a reference. Don’t forget to follow your instincts, if you feel uncomfortable, leave and ask another person, every country has untrustworthy people.

These sentences can help you:

Facts:

* The native language is Spanish.

* The capital is Bogotá DC; however, Medellin is the second biggest city in Colombia, with a lot of activities for tourists. Unlike Bogota, Medellin is hot.

* The country has two coasts, the first is the Caribbean Sea and the second the Pacific Ocean.

* We have three important islands, San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina.

* We don’t have seasons, so you can experience a range of different weather in one day, depending on where you are, and how high you are.

* It is not usual to eat spicy food, but we do have ‘’Ají’’, a mixture of onion, tomatoes, vinegar, chili, olive oil and coriander.

* We have a large variety of fruit, such as Borojó, Guanabana, Curuba, Granadilla, Guayaba, Nispero, Zapote, Uchuva, Tomate de arbol, and many more.

* The most famous sport in Colombia for young people is footbol (soccer) and ‘’Tejo’’ in the small towns.

* The national alcohol is Aguardiente and Chicha.

* For snack after lunch around 5:00 pm or for breakfast, we sometimes eat ‘’Aguadepanela’’ with cheese and ‘’Almojabana’’ or ‘’Arepa’’.

Colombia has amazing places, in my opinion the best places are not in the main cities. If you want to go to the best places, you need to go around, take a buses for hours and sometimes boats or airplanes. However, it is important to visit cities such as Bogota, Medellin, Barranquilla, Cali, Bucaramanga or Popayan to party. You can find various types of music such as Salsa, Merengue, Vallenato, Cumbia, the native music like Joropo, Sanjuanero, Pasillo, and pop music, such as Electronic, Reggaeton, and Hiphop. Besides partying, you can visit museums, galleries, restaurants, theaters, churches, pubs, stadiums, clubs and sacred places.

My top 10 places to visit in Colombia:

1. Caño cristales – Meta.

2. Nuqui – Choco.

3. Parque del Tayrona - Santa Marta.

4. Cabo de la vela Guajira.

5. Islas del rosario - Cartagena

6. Amazonas.

7. Parque de los Nevados and Villa de leyva – Boyaca.

8. Barichara and San Gil – Santander.

9. Desierto de la Tatacoa – Neiva.

10. Parque Natural Tuparro - Puerto Carreño .

Colombia is more than a tourist destination, Colombia is enthusiastic people with dreams. and passion for everything we do. It is my country with amazing food, many different types of fruits, vegetables, animals and plants, incredible places, and love everywhere.
